Purging V Breaking Out

I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I honestly love looking at the fully stacked shelves of products and stand skimming the ingredients list in the aisles for a solid 10 minutes of potential new products.

A few blog posts ago I mentioned I was running low on some of my holy grail skin care products and found myself at my local drugstore/pharmacy.

I happened upon a skin care brand, The Ordinary. The prices were reasonable and the white packaging had me like a moth to a flame. This little guy tugged at my heart and whispered, “take me home”. So naturally I placed him gently in my hand basket and carried him and another holy grail product to the counter.

So as per usual I patch tested my new buddy on my left cheek, under my eye. If anything that would be my problem area and if I were to react, then I’d know in the morning. Luckily for me, I didn’t suffer any problems *thank you skin*

The next evening (it’s recommended to use as a PM product) I got to enjoy placing a few steady drops over my face and rubbing it in all over. I sure was pleasantly surprised the next day when some of my stubborn closed comedones looked flatter and smoother over those areas.

Now I must mention, I have some experience with chemical exfoliants as I use Nip + Fab Glycolic Pads which contain both AHA’s and BHA’s. Please be sure that you are not using these products more than the recommended amount of time because you WILL over exfoliate and wreak havoc on your face.

Containing Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% (Hyaluronic Acid). Lactic Acid an AHA derived from sour milk products have the benefit of turning over skin cells and causing the least amount of irritation which makes it a great starting point if you’re new to the whole chemical exfoliation thing. Hyaluronic Acid helps with tissue repair and aids in reducing inflammation to your skin. A++ in my eyes.

Like many a time before, trial and error of skin care products left me wondering if it was normal to breakout all of a sudden when starting to use a new product or was I reacting to it? Would it get better or worse in time? I recently made a video on how to know which your skin could be experiencing so check it out if you’re in a bit of a spot with a new product you’re testing out.

For now I am quite happy with this new product and I’m now scouring the net for more recommendations on this brand 🙂

Remember to patch test all new products on a sensitive part of your skin you know you suffer breakouts with and behind your neck or behind your ear when testing for allergic reactions.

I may update with more products in future but for now, as always love your health!
