10 Quick Tips About Skincare

  1. Establishing a basic skincare routine will transform your skin. Check out my current basic skincare routine.
  2. Using a washcloth/flannel or microfiber facial towel will help gently exfoliate the skin’s surface.
  3. Keeping your skin’s moisture barrier happy will mean happy skin. The epidermis or outer layer of your skin should be moisturised morning and night after cleansing to help battle oilyness or dryness.
  4. Always patch test new products and cosmetics before applying all over your face. Save yourself the stress of a major breakout, redness or rashes that may appear on your face if your skin just doesn’t agree with some of the ingredients.
  5. Protect from the sun with sunscreen daily.Β Preferably use a physical sunscreen containing zinc with SPF 50+ daily to ensure you protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays which can cause skin cancer, hyperpigmentation and wrinkly skin. Remember to reapply throughout the day too!
  6. Wash your face and take showers in lukewarm water. Yes those winters can be brutally cold and the thought of not entering a steaming hot shower can be as bad as dropping your favourite food on the floor. Water in general should be kept tepid to ensure comfort for your skin.
  7. Visit your doctor for more information and treatment with skin problems. Sometimes we exhaust ourselves of all options scouring forums and blogs alike. Leave some stuff to the professionals to ensure your skin’s health and adequate treatment of difficult symptoms.
  8. Know your skin type. This can help establish good routines that will counteract any annoying symptoms that pop up.
  9. Eat healthier. In another post I mentioned drink plenty of water doesn’t always mean clearer skin however a healthy diet incorporating a whole food diet removing as many processed foods as possible can generate some great results for your skin.
  10. Sometimes it will get worse before it gets better. A stage of purging can happen when you have chosen to use products to help your skin. Yes it’s scary but if you notice improvement within a few weeks then stick to it! Note: if after weeks you are finding no improvement then stop using the products and follow a basic routine.
