Benefits of Going Foundation Free

Hello fellow bloggers! It has been 1 week since my last post and I’ll be honest. I’ve had a bit of writers block coinciding with the winter blues but I’m happy to be back today.

Yes

As I mentioned, I’ve been struggling to find ideas about what to blog about, your suggestions are always helpful (comment below if you’d like). I thought today I’d talk about what’s been happening with me in the beauty/skincare world of Dee.

What’s Changed in My Routine?

As it’s Winter here in Australia, the humidity and moisture in the air has plummeted substantially leaving the air around me dry. Not to mention the fact the heater is coming on during the early morning and night time and I’m more frequently washing my hands. And yes, even my favourite little dry patch of Dermatitis is back for winter right on time on the crook of my ear, if you were wondering.

Another thing, I have been foundation free for almost 2 weeks now. Yes, this makeup lover has completely steered clear of one of my favourite products in my makeup drawer, foundation.

You may be asking why? And to be completely honest, I have started to become more obsessed with skincare and keeping my skin happy instead of needing to heap on the makeup.

My goal?

I want to clear my skin completely so that I don’t need foundation anymore. I suppose it comes with my age but as I get older, the priority is now changing from makeup to caring for my skin even more so than I’ve done in the past. I’m totally channeling Michelle Phan vibes. Anyone else remember when she told us all she’d been foundation free for ages? It’s happening to me now and I totally understand why!

What I have Been Putting on my Face

  • Mineral oil to double cleanse in the evening
  • A gentle cleanser
  • Lukewarm water to rinse my face
  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream + Hyaluronic Acid to replenish moisture
  • La Roche-Posay Toleriane Soothing Protective Skincare, a richer moisturiser
  • Sunscreen SPF 50+ every 2 hours
  • Lip Balm SPF 50+

If you noticed, I haven’t been using any actives such as my Azclear Azelaic Acid cream or my Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Face Wash with 2% Salicylic Acid. Reason being they tend to dry my skin out even more. At the moment my focus is to keep my moisture barrier happy.

I should mention I have spot treated a few blemishes that are purging from my skin with tea tree oil diluted with water.

Benefits I’ve Noticed

I’m back to basics! And you know what? I can see a difference in my skin already such as:

  • Even skin tone
  • Balanced skin, not too oily or too dry
  • Redness is going down
  • Texture/bumps are going away, smoother texture
  • Softer skin

What I Put it Down To

It’s got to be going foundation free. I’m not clogging up more pores with liquids and powders that are full of fragrance and additive ingredients with the potential to irritate my already sensitive skin. Being a minimalist in my skincare is working wonders for me!

I wonder, have you gone foundation free before? Let me know in the comments below.

Remember to love your health.
