Why I Won’t Be Buying Any Other Falsies

Because I’ve found my holy grail false lashes brand *heavenly music plays*.

Nikkia Joy Cosmetics is by far the most comfortable brand of eyelashes I have purchased.

Seriously if you have sensitive eyes, small eyes or eyes that easily water, get your hands on these lashes ASAP. She ships internationally so no excuses! The only thing these lashes don’t do is stop my nose from getting itchy and watery. Please tell me I’m not the only one who gets this not long after applying lashes?

Proud to see the gorgeous Nikkia Joy, fellow Australian YouTuber doing so well with her eCommerce brand Nikkia Joy Cosmetics. I’m all for supporting small businesses and she definitely deserves the recognition and praise!

I first made a purchase back in December ’17 from memory not long after her official launch. ‘Georgia’ lashes from her Faux Mink Collection is a light weight, feathery strip lash that feels as comfortable on the eye as when you touch it with your fingers. Named after her super cute pup Georgia too! ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s an older video of my review and try on.

My second purchase were the popular, ‘Melanie’ lashes from the Classics Collection. I can say I’ve bought 3 pairs of these and keep reaching for these most often in my makeup drawer. They are so flattering on my eye shape! Not too heavy and definitely do not over power my slightly hooded eyes (I’m still saying my eye space is kind of smallish). Perfect for a day or night look they’re simply stunning and I always receive compliments on them.

Hand crafted lashes that are created so well, I wear each pair 20+ times which gives you a real bang for your buck.

Over the Easter long weekend I was excited to purchase more lashes I have yet to try as there was a large sale on all her products. For the first time I got ‘The Petite’ set of lashes and the ‘Ashleigh’ lashes to try. 5 new styles I can’t wait to experiment with different eyeย  makeup looks.

So check out her website and get some beautiful lashes now. Be sure to follow her on YouTube and her other social media platforms for fantastic content in the beauty category.

Thank you Nikkia for creating a brand of false lashes for girls like us who’d rather not have wings attached to our eyelids lol.

Remember to love your health! ๐Ÿ™‚

An Embarrassing Skin Condition?

I scratched and scratched. I was only about 9 or 10 when I started to develop a white patch on my leg.

So my mother took me to our Doctor and I was told I had Eczema. I’ve honestly forgotten how I treated it but I’m sure I was prescribed a cream for it. It’s been 18 years and my memory is a little foggy if you can forgive.

It’s completely disappeared and I never get it reoccur again however I have developed it in other places that flare up with the weather and other variables in my life.

Apologies for the TMI for some of this post.

Here’s the video if you’d prefer to watch but continue reading by all means ๐Ÿ™‚

First would be on my ear, I develop a deep red patch of skin that is thick, sore and often bleeds. It leads me to apply copious amounts of moisturizer and applying a band aid to help me sleep albeit it’s a very difficult position to put a band aid in!

Another is my itchy inner ears, the canals. They flare up and itch like crazy and I mean I could scratch and scratch and scratch for 10 minutes and it still gives no relief. Believe you me I have scratched for that long and my ear began weeping and eventually crusts over.

I develop dry, sensitive, itchy patches on my skin that look like tiny red bumps all over my cheeks, chin and sometimes forehead. I believe this is due to getting too dehydrated and the weather contributes.

My scalp towards my forehead gets very dry and flaky along with my eyebrows and I find myself scraping the flakes out daily unless I stick to my routine.

I also worked in a position that had me constantly washing my hands for hygiene and I can tell you my hands were so dry, cracked, split and bleeding I could stand to have anything touch them. They were hot, angry and swelled. Anything I applied stung and I was told I had contact dermatitis from all the washing and soap irritating and stripping my skin not to mention the hand sanitizer I used.

I am by no means trying to make my symptoms sound terrible, they are annoying at most and I can keep it under control for the most part.

I aim to make a video on the products I use for Eczema/Dermatitis in future so stay tuned ๐Ÿ™‚

How to Guide In: Patch Testing

If you’ve been with me a while you’ll know that when I suggest certain products I stress the importance of patch testing.

Yes, I too purchased countless products in the past and applied them directly to my face without even giving it a thought. Lucky for me, from memory I never had a severe reaction or major breakout.

However, through reading I have come to realize this is a terrible thing to do because you just don’t know how your skin will react to it. There is also a possibility your skin can develop reactions after near constant use same as our body can develop food allergies to things we’ve never been allergic to in our life out of the blue. The human body is an interesting thing, nonetheless we should do our best to look after it and here at DMP Health our motto is, “Love Your Health” so lets get into our how to guide.

Come and say hi on my new video ๐Ÿ™‚

Essentially patch tests can be performed on the back of your neck or close to your ear/behind it and the place where you’re most prone to breakouts or acne. This can be different for everyone but for you, anywhere you tend to experience the most sensitivity or breakouts.

Apply a small amount on your neck or behind your ear to test for allergies or sensitivities and apply a small amount to the area on your face you choose to patch test for the impending doom of breakout city.

Then you wait. How long you wait truly depends, but for me I wait at least 24 hours – 48 hours and if I notice my skin is healthy I then apply it to my face. I can’t say this will work for you as once again your body may be different than mine and who’s to say you couldn’t experience a breakout/reaction a week later or month? I just think it’d be less likely however please be aware.

Now some people may be wondering is this all really necessary? Well to that I say, would you rather suffer with a small area breaking out, going red, getting hot and itchy? Or the entirety of your face swelling, growing huge cyst like pimples or red little bumps? The latter taking more longer to heal and get back to normal.

The decision is yours as always remember to love your health ๐Ÿ™‚

DMP Quick Skin Tips – Moisturizers V Emollients

Effectively both will do the same, re hydrate the skin.

However one is more potent then the other and carriers a lot more synthetic ingredients. This means they may irritate some skin types especially sensitive and acne prone as they could not agree with your skin.

So how do you use them? Should you use one or the other?

Moisturizers should be applied daily in the morning and evening to re dehydrate the skin which aids in the healing process and keeping your moisture barrier at optimum level. Not too dry or too oily, a healthy balance is what we aim for.

Emollients should be applied after moisturizer as to lock in the goodies that are applied beforehand.

So where can you buy emollients? There is one that we’re all too familiar with and it’s good old Vaseline. Some skin types like myself can tolerate it, others not so please patch test before. I have used it before on my eczema patches and they work like a charm. Depending on how dry your skin is will determine the duration of application so use your own discretion.

I’d suggest you use emollients in the evening as they’re more heavier and tend to leave you looking greasy. I would hate to think what my skin would like having applied moisturizer and Vaseline and makeup over the top so try and avoid day time use unless of course you don’t mind. Another benefit of adding an emollient to your PM routine would be that they have plenty of time to sit on your skin until morning (they won’t hardly absorb into your skin just create a protective layer) and you can remove it with your cleanser in the morning.

I hope you found this information helpful. If you like, check out my video above and as always remember to love your health ๐Ÿ™‚

My Evening Skin Care Routine + Double Deluxe Exfoliation Method

Today I share with you my evening skin care routine and a little something extra!

I use my DMP Health Deluxe Fiber Facial Cloth to remove my makeup (video explanation will be below if you’re interested). It’s also a bonus as it’s a physical form of exfoliation that doesn’t give you the harshness of some facial brushes. So if you’re considering changing up or adding to your current routine then keep reading or watching if you’d prefer.

PM Routine

  1. Remove makeup – Deluxe Fiber Facial Cloth – Also acts as secondary physical exfoliant
  2. Cleanse – Skin Doctors pH Balancing Cleanser with AHA – Chemical exfoliant
  3. Apply Serum or Creams – The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% – Acts as AHA Chemical Peel (1-2 nights a week)
  4. Spot treat – Tea Tree Oil (when required)
  5. Moisturize – Neutrogena Combination Skin Moisturizer

I allow about 30 min to pass in between my cleanser, then my serum and spot treatments and then by the time I go to sleep it’s about 60 minutes after all my chemical exfoliants have got the chance to soak in, I apply my moisturizer to rejuvenate the skin.

So you have more of any idea about my double deluxe exfoliation method check out my video to watch me go through my evening routine. It’s essentially the folding and double folding of my Deluxe Fiber Facial Cloth to create the ultimate thick, plush cloth to remove makeup. It works a charm if I do say so myself and I should know, I use it everyday so it’s tried and tested.

I think this is fast becoming one of my favorite one liners but please be sure to listen to your skin and it’s reaction to the things you place on it. Irritation, tingles that don’t fade after a minute or two, itching, acne or breakouts, redness that does not subside all could be the signs of an adverse reaction.ย In this case, discontinue use.

That’s it! I’m still perfecting my techniques and to some, the time and amount of products I use may seem overwhelming. To that I say, start basic and check your skin’s reaction. Good results may take time and boy do I know with those stubborn Post Inflammatory Hyper pigmentation pink spots I have on my face grr.

Patience is key and try to enjoy yourself a ‘spa like’ experience at home and take the time to pamper and love your health!

My Skin Care Routine

Have you ever spent your hard earned savings on the latest hyped foundation? Promising us the ultimate coverage, the most lightweight formula and long lasting benefits. Yes weโ€™ve all made it rain in Sephora at least once.

Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation, NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, heck even the infamous Tarte Shape Tape Foundation. Take your pick. It all costs a pretty penny but even then so if itโ€™s claimed to be the best, most hyped Foundation it may not work for you.

How can you be sure that the money you spend is going to get you the most perfect, flawless full coverage base weโ€™re all chasing?

A skincare routine.

Now I’m well aware there are a fair few individuals who get away with not even washing their face (apart from a shower daily) and they seem to have no skin problems whatsoever. But for many including myself, the shower water is not going to cut it!

I remember heading into my teenage years, the hormones were raging and the imbalances were rearing their ugly heads all over my face. Add in the fact that in my early 20s Iโ€™d just discovered MAC Studio Fix Fluid, my first ever high end foundation and I was wearing it everyday. Wearing it everyday and not taking it off properly in the evening. There was a time I didnโ€™t even remove my makeup before I slept ewwwww.

Yes yes, horrible I know. But Iโ€™ve grown a lot since then.

Incorporating a skincare routine is essential to great looking foundation. Not only will it look great but it will apply like a dream and maybe just maybe you wonโ€™t need to wear foundation anymore. Michelle Phan anyone? Okay maybe not that extreme.

Exfoliating the dead skin cells and cleansing deep down into your pores will begin the process of turning your skin cells over faster. This means the old dead, acne prone, dry, spotty, bumpy skin starts to lift exposing the beautiful new skin underneath.

I preferably use a mix of both physical and chemical exfoliation. My choice is of course my Deluxe Fiber Facial Cloth and I use an AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) once in a while. Majority of my exfoliation comes from my little towel. It cuts the time I have to exfoliate in half and honestly waking up to a nice warm Deluxe Fiber facial towel and pressing it over my eyes is really comforting in the mornings when your eyes feel half stuck shut from tiredness.

While exfoliation is important there are other steps that are crucial to completing a proper basic skincare routine in the morning and evening. I believe incorporating a mix gives me a balanced, even skin tone.

Just a side note, I have combination skin however this skincare routine is at least a minimum to follow as a man or woman, this is gender neutral and targeted to everyone considering starting a skin care routine.

  1. Cleanse (dry and dehydrated skin may skip this step)
  2. Exfoliate with Deluxe Fiber Cloth
  3. Moisturise
  4. Apply sunscreen

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate with Deluxe Fiber Cloth
  3. Moisturise
  4. Spot treat any blemishes (I use all natural Tea Tree Oil available at any Drugstore or Pharmacy)

Like most beginnings, it is your effort and dedication to this routine that will (if you continue everyday and night) show you the best results. Some results can be instantaneous, when I exfoliate I can’t help but run my (clean) hands across my face.

Other Tips For Clear Skin

Another note I should mention is that you should consider effectively cleaning your cell/mobile phone screen every few days with an antibacterial wipe or alcohol based screen cleaner. Think of where you take your phone all day, leave it resting on an unclean surface or use it to quickly Google something after you’ve pushed around the shopping cart/trolley? All those germs can transfer from your hands to your face when you receive a phone call not to mention scrolling through Facebook, Twitter or Instagram while you wait for the bus and then lean your hands on your face afterwards (where is that bus??).

Wash your pillowcase minimum once a week but preferably twice if you can remember. We spend 7+ hours resting our faces on them and even more if you nap ;).

Above all else, try your hardest to avoid touching your face often. It reminds me of when I first started wearing makeup and I’d rub or scratch my eyes and instantly say to myself, “Oh no! My mascara. Do I look like a panda?”.

The above tips are essentially just forming a habit really and with thought put into it, will become a part of your regular daily routine.

Be sure to check out my latest YouTube video if you have a moment and have a magical day!

Late Night Snacks For When Youโ€™re Peckish

Picture yourself nestled comfortably on the couch, blanket up to your chin, bed socks on and maybe your pet snuggled at your feet (or like me stuffed toy if you have a pet who doesnโ€™t do laps) itโ€™s Netflix and chill time.

Then you feel it. The hunger pang. The sugar craving the, โ€œdammit I should have had more to eat during the dayโ€ feeling. My stomach feels like I could fill the contents of the Grand Canyon in it. Gosh it even rumbles sometimes too.

So you kick off your blankie and itโ€™s off to the kitchen with ya.

Before you get caught up in the sugar fix youโ€™re craving for the love of Mickey Mouse please take a look at my list of healthy snacks for when the hunger yeti gets you.

Did you know that thirst can actually make you feel hungry? While I was clean eating last year, I read somewhere this interesting fact; drink one glass of water before you reach for that snickers bar. If after 30min you still arenโ€™t satisfiedย  then you may eat something. A healthy something *looks sternly at you*

A healthy selection of delicious snacks include;

  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter on its own
  • Apple quarters with about 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • Yoghurt and fruit (I love strawberries but you can mix any in really)
  • Carrot sticks
  • Hommus and brown crackers (less the salt if you can)
  • Popcorn (minus the triple explosion butter please and less salt the better)
  • Any fruit. Yes too much fructose is not a good thing but I ate all the fruit I wanted for dessert most nights and still lost weight however, I advise you proceed with caution

So I hope to encourage and inspire a new, healthier way of eating and snacking. Munching on sweet and salty snacks occasionally is OKAY do not forget this. But also be honest with yourself. If you’re putting in more than you exert in physical activity then maybe it’s time for a change. Of course the decision lies with you and only you if you’d like to change your eating habits. Good luck!
