MAC Series – Fav #5, Retro Matte Lipstick ‘Ruby Woo’ – My Festive Must Have

Tis the season to be jolly and wear a lot of red!

It’s Christmas Eve and before that special day, I need to share with you one of my favourite lipsticks. Very appropriate!

MAC Says:

A long-wearing Lipstick formula with intense colour payoff and a completely matte finish.

Long-wearing, eight hours

Non-feathering

Fade-proof

‘Ruby Woo’ AUD$36.00, 3 g / 0.1 US oz

What’s not to love about this classic red lip?

This iconic, blue-red, very matte lipstick will suit all skin tones for a properly perfect pout.

Application Tips

  • I would strongly suggest applying MAC’s Prep + Prime Lip or at the very least a lip balm (which is what I use). This will allow for smoother application
  • Use a red lip liner to fill in your lips. This creates a base. I use MAC’s ‘Cherry’ lip liner (as seen in featured pic above) it seems in the years after I bought ‘Cherry’ they have now got an actualΒ ‘Ruby Woo’ lip liner. (*coughs* why do I still want to buy this even though Cherry has literally been sharpened once since purchase and I don’t need it??)
  • Apply lipstick straight from the bullet
  • You can use a brush to apply more layers
  • Re-draw your lips to perfect any of the outer lines

Applying straight from the bullet gets maximum colour application, you can fix any mistakes later

Things to keep in mind

Red lips are capable of taking your makeup to the next level or making your face look more awake in the blink of an eye.

  • It also has a way of drawing your eyes to any other red things on your face, i.e that pimple, that vein, capillary or that dry patch of skin. Fair people beware! Tanned skin lovelies, you’re lucky.
  • Be sure to cover up your face as to not draw attention to that red area because human nature will cause people’s eyes to match the red on your lips to the red on your cheek etc.

My Thoughts

I have worn this to big occasions and small dinners and sometimes just during the day, the staying power is always there and it hardly transfers onto any cutlery or glassware. It is very matte, but so gorgeous, a holy grail in my opinion.

So have I got you convinced why you might want to wear this for Christmas? πŸ˜€

Wishing you all a safe and happy Christmas!

MAC Series – Fav #4, Red Brick Eye Shadow + Age Old Eye Shadow Trick!

Orange. I bet you’d never think to purchase this shade of eye shadow. Maybe you’re certain it wouldn’t suit you. Maybe you think it’d never work on your skin tone. Well let me tell you a little something about this colour.

Perhaps you’re thinking, “She’s lost it if she thinks I’m going to be applyingΒ thatΒ all over my lids!”

side eye

Wait! Don’t leave just yet. Now I’m not saying there aren’t some particularly photogenic individuals out there who couldn’t rock an entirely orange look. I’m talking using this shade in the slightest way possible to transform a dull look to a ka-pow look!

But first, a message from MAC;

A highly pigmented powder that applies evenly and blends well. Can be used wet or dry. Available in a wide variety of textures and finishes. Non-acnegenic.

So why out of 105 shades available at MAC should you consider this one find a home in your collection or kit?

Firstly, I have a love affair with MAC shadows. Dare say it, more than Tarte’s shadows *gasp*

But other than the formula, lasting power and opacity, it’s the colour that works so brilliantly in almost every eye look.

By applying a smidge of this just above the crease between the brow bone, it gives a warmth particularly if you’ve used a lot of cool tones.

Something about this makes the colours beside it pop and give it a polished and professional look.

There’s More!

You can even put a little of this on your cheeks, another old trick similarly is applying some of your chosen blush to the area around your eyes to tie the look together. It really works!

Orange works with nearly every colour. Try it and see for yourself! MAC shadows again, an OG favourite of mine and the first mid-end cosmetics I purchased as a younger woman.

Let me know if you knew about this eye shadow trick below πŸ™‚

MAC Series – Fav #3, Soft and Gentle Mineralize Skinfinish

If you see me wandering the aisles of Sephora or Mecca, I usually almost always have some form of glitter stuck on me.

I just can’t help swatching glittery and sparkly products. Highlighters in particular catch the corner of my eye with their wonderful glisten and before you know it, my finger has gently swiped the powder and I stare, mouth agape.

Mouth Agape

Today I bring to you my number #1 Fav highlighting product of all time, and it makes my MAC’s fav list at number 3. Here’s the previous #1 and #2 favs.

MAC describes it as,

A luxurious, slow-baked, velvety soft, domed face powder with a radiant finish. Strategically buff on to add highlights to the high points of the face, or blend all over for a sheer luminous polish to the skin. Features our MΒ·AΒ·C Multi-Mineral Complex and vitamin E.

Yes yes yes!

With 5 other brilliant shades, MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish will have you covered no matter your skin tone.

Ingredients

Talc, Nylon-12, Dimethicone, Polysorbate 20, Isopropyl Palmitate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Yeast Extract/Faex/Extrait De Levure, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, BHT, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol.

Why I Love It

This champagne powder reflects gold and silver dust pigments to pack some serious shine punch. It’s no wonder it’s one of their bestselling face powders. It essentially is the best neutral highlight available. Not leaning too gold, silver or pink, I think it makes for a great highlight for all.

I only own three different highlighters and this my friends is the one I reach for every time. Whether it be a natural or glam look, it always fits perfectly.

If I could, I’d buy them all. But my inner grown up tells me highlighters are often products that you never can reach pan on. So I shouldn’t buy more.

Unless I do this everyday…

Convince me otherwise guys, please.

I wonder have you tried this amazing highlight for yourself?

MAC Series – Fav #1, Studio Fix Fluid Foundation

I have a very soft spot for MAC products. They were my first ever high end purchase as a budding makeup lover years ago. My first purchase? The wonderful Studio Fix Fluid for none other than that completely flawless, matte base I was after.

I cringe slightly knowing that my skin was actually pretty good back then and yet I was hunting for a full coverage foundation to just blank out my face. Only makeup lovers will understand.

20181113223939_IMG_4097[1]
I highly recommend you purchase the pump. It’s sold separately, one downfall of the packaging
Matte foundations are just, sometimes a necessity. We might be suffering with misbehaving skin and it gives us the confidence to go out everyday. For me it was like painting a canvas. The beginning of the art I wanted to create on my face.

So there I was excitedly standing at a MAC counter in Sydney’s CBD, gift card in hand from a generous friend and ready to spend my birthday money. $50AUD on a foundation was crazy sounding to me but all the same I thought if I was spending so much it had to be good right?

Ingredients

Cyclopentasiloxane, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Dimethicone, Magnesium Sulfate, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Titanium Dioxide, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Algae Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Methoxy Amodimethicone/Silsesquioxane Copolymer, Laureth-7, PEG/PPG-18/18 Dimethicone, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Silica, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Propylene Carbonate, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Sorbic Acid, Chloroxylenol, Phenoxyethanol

30ML / 1.0 US Fl OZ also has a slight scent to it and unfortunately broke me out.

Note: I was wearing it everyday and I wasn’t removing it properly in the beginning stages. It doesn’t cause me any issues when I wear it infrequently and double cleanse.

However be warned as many people seem to react to this foundation. Remember! Patch test before if unsure.

Purchase

MAC Counters in Myer, David Jones and Mecca and Mecca Maxima stores in Australia.

This has an SPF of 15 remember a base layer of SPF no less than SPF 30

Love at First Application

This is a very thick, buildable foundation. If you’re not into makeup on the heavier side then steer clear. You don’t need a whole lot to go a long way either. Apply one thin layer and see how you feel, add another if you feel you’re needing the extra coverage.

From memory I needed to thin layers to get full coverage. I.e no redness peeking through corners of my nose.

Shade Range

MAC has a solid range of about 50 shades so finding your match shouldn’t be too difficult. I for one was sold an NC15 which can tend to look a little too yellow on me (either that or I’m too heavy handed with my application). It just never looked correct. However over the years the shade range has been extended to include fairer and deeper tones. I haven’t been matched since the stone ages.

NC and NW Whaat?

20181113223914_IMG_4096[1]

This can be a little confusing. But let me break it down. The codes MAC use for their shades are;

  • NC = Neutral Cool – for warm toned skin
  • NW = Neutral Warm – for cool toned skin

No I didn’t make a mistake with those descriptions. It’s actually better to think of the whole NC and NW thing as;

  • NC = Not Cool
  • NW = Not Warm

Basically pick the one you’re not, either not cool toned or not warm toned.

After all these years I believe I am actually NW and a lighter shade. Alas I haven’t been back to be matched and only have this old bottle of Fluid in the wrong shade.

Recommendation and why I love it

  • Gives you unbelievably, flawless skin
  • Looks better as the day goes on
  • Has a lasting power like no other

I’d recommend this classic. It’s truly one of the most popular bestsellers of MAC’s foundations for a reason and one that’s been around for years.

Have you tried this foundation and what are your thoughts?

I do hope you follow on to see more of my MAC favourites in this series.
