These Skincare Products Will Improve Your Skin

After a few months trial of a new skin cleanser and moisturiser, I feel happy to bring to you my first skincare product empties list!

Although only 2 products make the list for now, be sure these products have vastly improved my skin’s texture, tone, balance and overall appearance. I couldn’t be more happier. So let me share them with you today!

Neutrogenaย Extra Gentle Cleanser

Extra Gentle Cleanser 200mL AUD$12.99. A great value staple product available readily for most European, UK and USA markets alike.

This product claims to leave your skin feeling moisturised as it cleanses and I can’t say anything bad about this product. It has a thick, cream like consistency that is so gentle and smooth to use on your face. I have never felt any adverse effects such as stinging, dryness, or any type of redness or allergic reaction.

  • Fragrance-free
  • Non-comedogenic
  • Hypo-allergenic
  • Soap-free
  • Dye-free

That’s what we like to see in our skincare products!

  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Cetearyl Alcohol
  • Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • Cetearyl Glucoside
  • Caprylyl Glycol
  • Carbomer
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Ethylhexylglycerin

A short and sweet list of ingredients, another plus!

Massage into the facial skin with finger tips using luke-warm water. With gentle circular motions, massage into the forehead, nose, chin and cheeks for a few minutes. This is a non-foaming cleanser. Rinse off well with luke-warm water and continue with skincare routine.

Yes most definitely. I have already done so because I couldn’t be happier with it’s cleansing abilities. My skin feels refreshed and soft afterwards.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

When I was on the hunt for this moisturiser, I mistook the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel 50g AUD$24.99ย for their very similar product being the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream instead (the one I really wanted to purchase). Difference being the Water Gel is blue and has fragrance and the Gel-Cream has no fragrance.

  • Extremely Hydrating
  • Oil-free
  • Non-comedogenic

Can’t say anything bad about this moisturiser, it is so cooling and refreshing. Now that we’re in Winter here, my skin has been drying out a little with the use of heating in my home and the natural elements.

  • Water
  • Dimethicone
  • Glycerin
  • Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer
  • Penoxyethanol
  • Polyacrylamide
  • Cetearyl Olivate
  • Dimethiconol
  • Sorbitan Olivate
  • C13-14 Isoparaffin
  • Dimethicone Crosspolymer
  • Chlorphenesin
  • Carbomer
  • Laureth-7
  • Sodium Hyaluronate
  • Ethythexylglycerin
  • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Fragrance
  • C12-14 Pareth -12

Straight after cleansing. A little goes a long way with this formula as it helps boost water retention on the face. Apply a finger nails worth of product or more depending and smooth over entire face and neck.

It’s a great product, non-irritating to my combo/sensitive skin. However as I’ve now discovered Australian stores carry the Gel-Cream (white cream) I picked that up instead and can’t wait to try it tonight! I prefer to steer clear of products containing fragrance if I can.

Where to Buy Neutrogena

Local pharmacies, drugstores and beauty supply chains should stock these widely available and popular products. If you’re unable to locate these then do check out your country’s Amazon listings as Neutrogena do sell their products on there.

I’d like to know, have you tried any of the above products? Would you like to?

Love your health.

Wait What? There are Two Types of Sunscreens?

You just pick one off the shelf and it’ll do the job right? With Summer fast approaching the northern hemisphere and Winter upon us in the southern, you still need to slip, slop, slap, seek, slide.

Let me learn you a thing or two about the basic chemistry build up of sunscreens and their types. I really don’t know why my teachers decided I couldn’t do Chemistry in High School when I really wanted too lol.

Let’s get straight to the point

Yes, they’ll both protect you from UVA and UVB rays from the sun. But it’s the way they work that makes them different. Ultimately a physical sunscreen will protect your skin more than a chemical sunscreen.

*bell rings* Chemistry Period Is Now In Session!

Chemical Sunscreens

Common ingredients include but not limited to:

  • Butly methoxydiebzoylmethane
  • Homosalate
  • Octly Salicylate
  • Octocrylene
  • Oxybenzone

Once applied, they work to absorb the UVA and UVB rays into the skin. Then it does this really awesome thing where it converts it to heat and releases it from the skin. Kind of like how trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen in return.

This can be problematic if you suffer from a skin condition like Rosacea that is easily aggravated by heat. So you may do better with the following sunscreen. Read on.

Dare to Bare, naked skin

Physical Sunscreen

Common ingredients (usually always one) include but not limited to:

  • Zinc Oxide

Once applied, works as a physical shield to mask your face therefore stopping the penetration of the suns harmful rays and reflecting them off your skin.

Unfortunately zinc leaves a white cast in it’s true form and it’s difficult to not look like Casper. Even I with fairer skin look a bit strange. This may not be the best sunscreen to apply to deeper skin tones as it has a lot of white cast residue.

When To Use It In Your Routine?

Apply after moisturiser has fully dried. Do not mix with any other product as it will lose its potency.

Why Sunscreen Everyday?

Protect your skin from UVA rays which cause aging and UVB rays which cause burns thata can lead to skin cancers. Also, if you’re a fellow sufferer of PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) you’ll want to slather on the sunscreen to stop the sun from damaging the skin further prolonging their appearance on your skin.

Even if you plan to spend the day indoors or go out on an overcast day, the UVA and UVB rays are still able to damage your skin. Just get into the habit of putting it on as you would a part of your regular skin care or makeup routine.

Remember to re-apply sunscreen throughout the day as sunscreens begin to lose their effectiveness after a few hours. If you’re wearing makeup, you can still pat the sunscreen into the skin to avoid it pilling up.

I hope you enjoyed the post on sunscreen! Do you use sunscreen everyday? Comment below ๐Ÿ™‚

As always, love your health!

Updated Skin Care Routine

Keep It Simple Simon. The KISS Principle is an acronym well know across the globe. I believe the first time I heard it my high school teacher used, ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’ instead. We’re not here to offend though so Simon, please keep reading if you want to learn the basics of skin care.

Today, an updated skin care routine and a look into the products I am currently using. These are all tried and tested and include the best possible ingredients and leaves out the ones you don’t want, for the most part. Warning this is going to feature pretty much all Neutrogena products because, if you’re not already aware, they’re my favourite skin care company. So enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š

Here’s my video if you’d like to check it out!

Morning Routine (AM)

Wash your hands, we don’t need any toilet germs on your hands ๐Ÿ˜‚

1. Wash face with a gentle cleanser.ย Massage cleanser with fingers over the entire face avoiding eyes. Rinse the cleanser off well to remove any residue and wash over eyes at this point.

My Product of Choice; Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanserย AUD $8.99.

Pro Tip – combine cleanser with luke warm water. You don’t want to freak your face out with too cold or too hot, just something that’s comfortable. Luke warm is always recommended during any stage of the face cleansing process.

2. Apply an active cleanser of your choice to your face.ย BHA OR AHA are chemical exfoliants found in some cleansers and help with acne and skin problems. With circular motions, use your fingers to apply only to the areas that require treatment. You can allow it to sit on the skin for a few minutes if you wish. Then rinse off completely.

My Product of Choice;ย Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Washย AUD $9.69 twice a day as it has an active ingredient of Salicylic acid 2%. Use this once or twice depending on what you think your skin can handle.
Skin Drs
Alternatively, this AHA is much more gentle to the skin if you don’t require a whole heap of help sloughing off those dead skin cells.

3. Pat dry or if you feel comfortable, go in straight with a wet face to moisturise face and neck.ย Let this air dry then continue.

My Product of choice; currently alternating between the two above, Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture AUD $12.49 (a classic I have been using for years) and the newbie from their Hydro Boost Range, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel AUD $14.99

4. Sunscreen.

My Product of Choice; If I’m wearing makeup then I go in with a chemical sunscreen Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Fluid AUD $13.99 as it sits well underneath makeup. However if it’s a makeup free day (which more often than not),ย this Physical sunscreen by Neutrogena,ย Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Dry-Touch AUD $17.49ย Note: I haven’t tried to use this under makeup as yet but I will experiment soon enough.

If you’re wondering what on Earth a chemical and physical sunscreen is, stay tuned as I will talk more about sunscreens in a different blog/video. Be sure to follow my blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel for notifications on updates.

Evening Routine (PM)

Finished chopping up onion and garlic for dinner earlier? Make sure to cleanse off irritants and germs before touching your face and wash your hands.

  1. Remove bulk of sunscreen and/or makeup (if worn) with Garnier Micellar Cleansing Waterย AUD $9.99 + DMP Health Deluxe Fiber Microfiber Facial Cloth.
  1. Wash face with a gentle cleanser with fingers or facial cloth, then rinse off completely.
  2. AHA or BHA cleanser,ย allow to sit on the skin then rinse off completely.
  3. Moisturise.
  4. Apply thin layer of emollient to dry areas or places my skin need extra hydration to heal damaged skin.
My Product Choice; Vaseline Petroleum Jelly AUD $3.99

That’s it! I’d also recommend you now apply your favourite lip balm and hand/body moisturiser too and settle in for the evening. Your skin will thank you for taking the extra time to look after it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed an update on my skin care routine for the morning and evening.

As always remember to love your health!

3 New Skincare Product Reviews

I’m a skincare, makeup and beauty junkie and I’m forever scouring the shelves to find new products to test and review.

Today I share 3 new skincare products I have been loving lately and what they can do for you too.

Please remember to patch test all new products before applying directly to your face. I have a video especially on that right here if you’re wondering what I mean ๐Ÿ™‚

The first 2 product recommendations are by the skincare company calledย The Ordinary. So if you’re not familiar with the brand The Ordinary is a branch company falling under the umbrella of DECIEM better known as, “The Abnormal Beauty Company”. They’re free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, animal oils, formaldehyde, mercury, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, benzalkonium chloride, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, oxybenzone. It’s also not tested on animals which is a plus in my book.

Flat Lay 4

Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% – This is a chemical peel formulation of lactic acid and Hyaloronic Acid. Lactic Acid being the most mildest form of AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) making it the most popular you can find. It also makes it perfect for anyone new to experimenting with acids on their face. Hyaloronic Acid actually moisturizes your skin so it’s nice to have the both combined for this product because we all need hydration.

It comes in a frosted, eye dropper bottle with 30ml or 1 fl oz and you can place a couple of drops on your face and rub in with clean fingers. Packaging directs you to use everyday as a PM product but my skin can’t handle that, so I use it 1-2 times a week being careful not to over exfoliate because remember it is an AHA. I actually use a Q-Tip/cotton ear bud to dab it on my closed comedones. What I love about it is that it effectively reduces the appearance of my texture and smooths my skins appearance.

Flat Lay 3

The second product recommendation is Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2% – Visibly targets aging skin and uneven skin tone. What I love about this product is that is slowly but surely helping reduce the hyper pigmentation ‘acne scars’ of pinkish, purple and red dots under my skin. It comes in a grey and white squeeze tube and the formula has a very gritty texture and you will feel a tingling sensation. Remember if it continues for longer than 10 minutes then remove it immediately.

Importantly, please be sure to follow a thorough sun protection regimen and reduce sun exposure whilst using these products.

You can purchase The Ordinary skin care products if you’re in Australia from Priceline, Priceline Pharmacies and MYER, UK- ASOS and Beauty Bay, USA and Canada – Sephora. Also check the website for more locations closer to wherever you may live in the world.

Third and final product review is a mask that I picked up on sale 2 weeks ago by my favorite skincare brand Neutrogena.

Flat Lay 5

Hydro Boost 100% Hydrogel Maskย -(It’s a sheet mask so be prepared to look like Hannibal Lecter) – Quenches the skin to deeply hydrate and leaves skin supple. I have been on the hunt for a good mask that wouldn’t break me out. I tried clay mud masks before and ended up with a whole heap of closed comedones and threw it out pretty quickly.

Recommendation is to leave on your face for 20-30 minutes for an intense treatment.ย Why I love this is because it felt so cool, so soothing and nice on my face and certainly left it feeling soft and plump up until the next morning. The only trouble I found was that it practically slid right out of the packet and I nearly dropped it on the floor so be careful with that!

The skin on our face sure needs a pampering once in a while, why not try out these 3 products if you’re suffering with skin texture, aging, uneven skin tone or hyper pigmentation? Have you got any holy grail skin care products you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments below and remember to love your health!
