New Purchases! Maybelline Super Stay Foundation & Master Chrome Highlighter

So your girl has done it again. However I must say the timing has been absolutely perfect, thank you Law Of Attraction!

There was another sale on at my local drugstore/pharmacy Priceline and 40% off Mayebelline cosmetics. This is about the only time I purchase drugstore cosmetics, when they come close to the same price our USA friends buy them for $14.97AUD thank you very much. I refuse to pay full price which is about $24.95AUD regularly, Australia’s makeup/cosmetics mark ups is crazy!!

I wanted to get my hands on Maybelline’s Super Stay 24H Full Coverage Foundation as it has been classified as a major dupe of the Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation. Woot woot!

Dupe Alert!

Also! Another splurge, Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in 100 Molten Gold.

Ooh shiny!

Reasons Why I Didn’t Need Another Highlighter

  1. My Mac Soft and Gentle highlighter still looks the same as I bought it a year or 2 ago. Okay maybe a small dent is apparent.
  2. I’ll probably never hit pan on highlighters, who does when you use so little product?

Reason Why I Bought It Anyway

  1. It’s pretty and shiny. Well that’s 2 reasons hehe.
Another pic just because. Pretty *drools*

Anyhoo, Nikkia Joy of the wonderful YouTube beauty guru community has been raving about this highlighter and she says its pretty much the exact same product as the ABH Amrezy Highlighter. Yes, I’m sold.

I just love buying cheaper cosmetics that are dupes for the expensive counterparts.

I have yet to try these beauties but stay tuned for a video demo and review.

Have any of you tried these 2 products yet?

As always remember to love your health.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum – Foundation Review

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of bringing home a new cosmetic product to try out. Okay maybe bringing home some Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is a similar experience am I right?

Guess who got her hands on another foundation recently? *raises hand*

Now before you think I went out and bought a new one just because, let me explain briefly. My beloved Cover FX Custom Cover Drops are on the way out or at least the struggle to squeeze out enough drops from the dropper is becoming a lot more difficult than when I first cracked open the bottle. I’m finding the consistency to be quite thick and as it’s so hard to tell how much liquid is actually left, I think it’s almost fully out!

So luckily for me my local drugstore/pharmacy Priceline was having a Pink Dot 1/2 price sale on Chanel’s little sister brand Bourjois Paris (same company, not the same products) and I swooped in on this little guy.

Light Beige no 53.

Containing 30mL/1fl. oz. of product this product is claimed to be Hypoallergenic. I’m a bit scepitcal as the scent of this product is very, very strong and fragrance is a known irritant of sensitive and acne prone skin types. However I won’t jump the gun yet but be warned of the scent!

I stumbled upon this foundation as it was recommended as a product that would not encourage the growth of the skin condition Malassezia better known as Fungal Acne (more on that another time).

This is a gel foundation claiming 16 hour wear with a semi matte finish that claims to instantly blend, creating a flawless complexion and with undetectable coverage. Nice.

Added Benefits Include;

Vitamin rich fruits; lychee, goji berries and pomegranate. Ooh la la, oui oui. Using this brand is turning me French.

Having used this product 3 times I can say this is a very nice foundation. The coverage is light to medium but not hugely build-able. I needed to use some concealer on my hyperpigmentation/red marks which is a little strange for me as I am so used to the full coverage of my Custom Cover Drops that I was a little surprised at first at the dewy- ness it gave me.

However, their claim to instantly blend with undetectable coverage is true and after this has had time to sink into the skin, it looks really nice.

Natural light, no flash

This is a foundation with a limited colour range which is so very disappointing and you should note that it does oxidize. I find the light beige isn’t an absolute perfect match. It’s just a little too olive for my skin tone however once I’m finished with the base makeup, seems to look okay and matches my decolletage (I’d rather look a little darker than paler).

With lights, no flash

Set with powders, this foundation lasted quite well on my combination skin and I found it didn’t crack near my mouth (smile lines) and I wasn’t shiny after 6+ hours wear. Mind you, it is winter here at the moment so that may be a factor in the lasting power of this foundation.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase of $16.00AUD, regular retail price at Priceline is about $32.00AUD. Would I re-purchase? Yes I think so. As an everyday foundation this is beautiful and definitely a go to for day time makeup.

I hope you enjoyed my review on Bourjois Paris Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation. I have a try on vid here.

Have you tried this one yet or do you think you might like to try it?

Makeup Brushes – My Recommendations!

Are they worth spending your hard earned money on? I’m going to go with a strong yes on this subject because for me, there’s no going back now.

I’ll be honest, I remember hearing about people who used makeup brushes and I laughed thinking whoa that’s pretty extreme and for the professionals right? That was long before I had any idea about how effective they were in creating perfected makeup looks. So if you’re interested, please keep reading.

My Brush Recommendations:

Price Legend

  • Cheaper End $
  • Mid End $$
  • High End $$$

$ Jessup Brushes Available onΒ eBay

My first ever set of real makeup brushes and yes, you’re spending less than $50 on these guys for a full set! The quality is fantastic, both soft and durable. I continue to use some of them and it’s been atleast 3 years + and they have not come off the handle or she’d bristles. So in simple eBay talk I’d give these a A+++++ Would recommend and re-purchase.

Mix of face brushes by Jessup, Models Prefer and Nude by Nature

$ – $$ Drugstore/Pharmacies Brushes

Most carry makeup brushes by popular brands like; ELF is an amazing brand of affordable brushes available at Kmart here in Australia, Ulta, Target, CVS, Walgreens in USA, and Superdrug in UK.

For the Aussies reading, Australian brand Nude by Nature available in Priceline and Priceline Pharmacies, and Priceline’s exclusive brand Models Prefer have some great brush sets if you can catch them on sale all the better!

They work very well and I have had no issues with shedding or scratchiness. I absolutely hate brushes that scratch your eyelids raw!

Your question might be do cheaper and mid end brushes hit the mark? Do they work just as well as some of the expensive brushes I’ve tried? 100% yes. Sometimes better!

$$$ Sephora Brushes (note Sephora carries a few different brush ranges from varying cosmetics companies).

Now we’re getting to the more lush, more expensive, high end, splurge brushes. I am so fortunate to have purchased a set of Zoeva makeup brushes from Sephora. In particular the ‘Complete Eye Set‘ from Zoeva are the set of brushes you’ll see me use for my eye makeup in all my video tutorials.

Some of my Zoeva Complete Eye Set brushes and a Jessup brush thrown in the mix

Am I happy I spent some of my tax money towards this brush set? 100%.

Overall, the point of this blog post is not to try force you to do or buy anything but provide some helpful info. No, we don’t all need to go out and buy $100 makeup brush sets to get great looking makeup and yes the cheaper brands will work as well in creating makeup looks more easily and effortlessly.

So from someone who’s tried cheap, to mid to high end makeup brushes, I hope this helps you should you want to buy any makeup brush sets in future.

As always, love yourself, love your health!

Could Water Be Doing Your Face More Harm Than Good?

In my time browsing skincare forums and blogs alike, I’ve often seen people mention that water irritated their skin and caused breakouts, flare ups and even allergic contact dermatitis. Could this be the case for you too?

H20 is actually an irritant to the epidermis and although we use it everyday to bathe and wash in, it’s doing us more harm than we’d like to consider. Have you ever considered how after repeat hand washing (particularly if you work or have worked in the healthcare and food industry) creates dry, cracked and even bleeding hands? Not to mention when the cold comes around and the winter whips your exposed hands they turn to white, pale, crusty forms of what they once were. It works the same with our bodies and face.

Okay lets pull hard up on the reigns here, I’m not saying don’t use water to wash your face or bathe in ever again because then what other option would we have?

Hard water (from the tap or faucet) essentially is stripping the moisture from our skin the moment it makes contact and makes our skin do an, “oh no moment”. Typically it starts to put it’s self into produce oil gear and if you’re not right there to replenish the moisture back in. That’s why it’s so crucial to healthy and happy skin.

Number 1 Tip For Stopping Water From Irritating You

Use lukewarm water to rinse, wash and bathe in. It’s no use startling your skin with cold water that’ll have it thinking you fell into the North Atlantic Ocean that born the iceberg from Titanic. Nor will you do it any favours if you have a seething hot shower. Luke warm is just comfortable enough not to irritate your skin.

If you still find that water is irritating, then I’d suggest trying to use Micellar Water as it the next best option to filtered water. See your healthcare professional if nothing else seems to work to solve acne and other skin related issues.

Do you drink the recommended amount of water daily? I fail 😦

Remember as always, love your skin, love your health!

Could Using Towels On Your Face Be Bad For You?

I thought of writing this blog post not long after my, “Microfiber Facial Cloth V Facial Brush” post. It got me thinking about how we all use towels to dry our faces and bodies after washing our faces and bathing.

There’s a lot of concern that the use of towels can promote unhealthy skin as, for the most part we hang our towels to dry in a damp and dark area and the bacteria just love to multiply. Then of course we reuse them, sometimes not always before washing them again now think about putting that on your face now. *Yuck*

There’s also the point that they can definitely be just as abrasive as facial brushes, depending on how you use them of course. We’re all told to, “pat dry our faces” and this of course is the best way to use a towel on any part of our bodies. However not using them at all may help prevent water loss and keep your skin more hydrated. That leaves us with some time to wait and let everything air dry but really you can go onto your skincare routine and apply moisturiser to your body, clean your ears, brush your hair just enjoy the pampering for a little because I think we all tend to rush things in life even if they should be a relaxing moment for us.

Here are some helpful tips to keep your towels and microfiber towels hygienic and as antibacterial as possible.

Face 2

Tips For Germ Free Towels

  1. Wash towels regularly as germs and bacteria transfer from our skin to our towels and washcloths as soon as they come into contact with eachother.
  2. Use a Hygiene Laundry Rinse with added antibacterial and anti fungal ingredients during your wash cycles to eliminate germs. Alternatively use an all natural approach by mixing a few drops of the essential oil Tea Tree Oil into laundry detergent.
  3. Hang your towels to dry in a well ventilated area and preferably in the sun as it’s the best bleach anyone can use to kill bacteria.

Now not everyone is going to stop using towels completely and that’s understandable but if you follow the above tips which aren’t all that difficult to remember, you give your skin priority in keeping healthy.

What colour is your favourite towel? πŸ˜€

Updated Skin Care Routine

Keep It Simple Simon. The KISS Principle is an acronym well know across the globe. I believe the first time I heard it my high school teacher used, ‘Keep It Simple Stupid’ instead. We’re not here to offend though so Simon, please keep reading if you want to learn the basics of skin care.

Today, an updated skin care routine and a look into the products I am currently using. These are all tried and tested and include the best possible ingredients and leaves out the ones you don’t want, for the most part. Warning this is going to feature pretty much all Neutrogena products because, if you’re not already aware, they’re my favourite skin care company. So enjoy 😊

Here’s my video if you’d like to check it out!

Morning Routine (AM)

Wash your hands, we don’t need any toilet germs on your hands πŸ˜‚

1. Wash face with a gentle cleanser.Β Massage cleanser with fingers over the entire face avoiding eyes. Rinse the cleanser off well to remove any residue and wash over eyes at this point.

My Product of Choice; Neutrogena Extra Gentle CleanserΒ AUD $8.99.

Pro Tip – combine cleanser with luke warm water. You don’t want to freak your face out with too cold or too hot, just something that’s comfortable. Luke warm is always recommended during any stage of the face cleansing process.

2. Apply an active cleanser of your choice to your face.Β BHA OR AHA are chemical exfoliants found in some cleansers and help with acne and skin problems. With circular motions, use your fingers to apply only to the areas that require treatment. You can allow it to sit on the skin for a few minutes if you wish. Then rinse off completely.

My Product of Choice;Β Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne WashΒ AUD $9.69 twice a day as it has an active ingredient of Salicylic acid 2%. Use this once or twice depending on what you think your skin can handle.
Skin Drs
Alternatively, this AHA is much more gentle to the skin if you don’t require a whole heap of help sloughing off those dead skin cells.

3. Pat dry or if you feel comfortable, go in straight with a wet face to moisturise face and neck.Β Let this air dry then continue.

My Product of choice; currently alternating between the two above, Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture AUD $12.49 (a classic I have been using for years) and the newbie from their Hydro Boost Range, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel AUD $14.99

4. Sunscreen.

My Product of Choice; If I’m wearing makeup then I go in with a chemical sunscreen Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Fluid AUD $13.99 as it sits well underneath makeup. However if it’s a makeup free day (which more often than not),Β this Physical sunscreen by Neutrogena,Β Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Dry-Touch AUD $17.49Β Note: I haven’t tried to use this under makeup as yet but I will experiment soon enough.

If you’re wondering what on Earth a chemical and physical sunscreen is, stay tuned as I will talk more about sunscreens in a different blog/video. Be sure to follow my blog and subscribe to my YouTube channel for notifications on updates.

Evening Routine (PM)

Finished chopping up onion and garlic for dinner earlier? Make sure to cleanse off irritants and germs before touching your face and wash your hands.

  1. Remove bulk of sunscreen and/or makeup (if worn) with Garnier Micellar Cleansing WaterΒ AUD $9.99 + DMP Health Deluxe Fiber Microfiber Facial Cloth.
  1. Wash face with a gentle cleanser with fingers or facial cloth, then rinse off completely.
  2. AHA or BHA cleanser,Β allow to sit on the skin then rinse off completely.
  3. Moisturise.
  4. Apply thin layer of emollient to dry areas or places my skin need extra hydration to heal damaged skin.
My Product Choice; Vaseline Petroleum Jelly AUD $3.99

That’s it! I’d also recommend you now apply your favourite lip balm and hand/body moisturiser too and settle in for the evening. Your skin will thank you for taking the extra time to look after it.

I hope you’ve enjoyed an update on my skin care routine for the morning and evening.

As always remember to love your health!
